About Me

Tennessee. Missouri. Washington, DC. Texas. Virginia.

Though I was born and raised in Nashville, Tennessee, I trekked it up the Mighty Mississippi to go to college and experience a new city! After graduating from Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri, I moved to the nation's capitol, Washington DC, to work at an investment firm. While working in finance for several years, I realized that my true calling was to help others and to better prepare the leaders of tomorrow, today. Soon thereafter, I picked up roots and headed down to Austin, Texas, where I taught at both public and private schools. In 2009, I completed my Masters in Education at the University of Texas (Hook Em Horns!). I was extremely honored and humbled to be recognized by the Pflugerville Independent School District as Kelly Lane's Humanitarian of the Year for the 2009-2010 school year for service to students, parents, and fellow teachers. In 2012, I decided that I wanted to be closer to family; I packed up and drove all 1500 miles from Austin to Richmond!! I am excited to be here and be a part of the Tuckahoe community! In 2014, I was honored to be chosen as Tuckahoe Middle School's Teacher of the Month. Most recently, I was recognized by Henrico County with an H21 award for efforts to integrate technology into the classroom.

I do come from a business background; I feel that this unique experience allows me to strengthen those skills that will be vital in the professional world. I often use this prior business background as a resource to help prepare students for the world that awaits them; many of my lessons incorporate ways to learn and improve upon their growing teamwork and group skills.

I am passionate about teaching and strive to make every day a fun and engaging one for your child to learn in class!
One of my overall goals for your child is to have them appreciate reading more, and thus, read more. If even a little bit of the love of reading, writing, and overall learning rubs off on your child, I have succeeded as an educator. I want to do whatever I can to ensure that you child likes or loves to read! I do my best to make class fun and enjoyable, all while learning is constantly taking place.

When not in the classroom, I like to spend my free time with family, traveling (I have a personal goal to visit each of the world's continents!), running, kayaking, hiking, rock climbing, watching sports, and of course reading! If you have a suggestion for me, whether it be a city to visit, where to hike, or a great book, I'd love to get a recommendation!
